I Made A Referral Sale Today

I’ve been doing a lot of cold outreach the past two weeks.

Over 100 DMs. Conversations started, leads warmed, a few going somewhere. I wrote about the experience - the silence, the doubt, the calibration that happens somewhere around message 60.

Today, none of that is how the sale came in.

A previous customer sent someone my way. That person reached out, we spoke, and they registered a domain through Jetdomains.

Why this matters more than the number

Cold outreach teaches you to talk to strangers. Referrals teach you something else entirely: that someone trusted you enough with their reputation to attach your name to it.

That’s a different kind of signal.

When someone sends you a customer, they’re not just passing on a contact. They’re saying: this person will be okay in your hands. They’re putting their relationship on the line. You don’t do that for a product you’re lukewarm about.

So yes - one sale. But the value isn’t in the revenue. It’s in what it tells me about who my customers are and how this business actually grows.

The pattern I’m starting to see

My best customer relationships aren’t coming from perfectly crafted DMs or clever hooks. They’re coming from people who’ve seen the product work, or spoken to someone who has.

That sounds obvious. It probably is obvious. But there’s a difference between knowing that trust-based businesses grow through word of mouth and actually experiencing the moment when it happens.

The experience changes how you think about every other part of the business.

It makes me less interested in optimising my cold message open rate and more interested in making sure every customer who’s already through the door has such a clear, useful experience that they naturally tell someone.

What I’m focused on now

Getting 8K per month in revenue. Domains + hosting, from the kinds of customers who are already finding their way to Jetdomains through word of mouth and outreach.

That number creates options. It proves the model. It means JetDomains is a real business, not a project.

Today’s sale is one data point in that direction.

More to come.
